This creamy cheesy orzo will have you going back for seconds. The Mediterranean-inspired dish of small pasta is perfect as a side dish to accompany numerous entrees and is sure to be a crowd pleaser (even kids like it). The orzo is perfectly cooked to al dente perfection, creating a satisfyingly base for the vibrant medley of flavors. Play with this basic recipe. You can add fresh herbs to design more flavor profiles.
Orzo resembles rice grains in shape, but it is a pasta product. The word “orzo” translates to “barley” in Italian, reflecting the pasta’s small, elongated shape, reminiscent of barley grains. It is often used in a variety of dishes, from soups and salads to pilafs and casseroles. Orzo’s petite size and versatile nature allow it to absorb flavors well.
Pro Tip
Invest in multipurpose nonstick cookware such as 2.5 quart sauce pan. It’s good for soups, sauces, pastas and much more, especially when you are cooking for one or two. It’s even safe for the dishwasher!

Instructions
- Bring broth to a boil and add your salt. Then stir in the orzo.
